A region truly described by its people
The Masai Mara is named after the Masai people that inhabit the region and the Mara River which snakes through the reserve. It is home to the 'big five' amongst many other species making a Masai Mara safari tour one of the most popular destination and activities in Kenya. The Masai Mara also plays host to the incredible spectacle of the annual wildebeest migration. The area has an amazing concentration of wildlife, particularly when the migratory wildebeest and zebras are grazing on the lush plains from June to October. Surrounding the Masai Mara National Reserve are a number of private conservancies of varying sizes owned by Masai communities.

Nairobi, Masai Mara and Aberdare National Park Tour Itinerary

Day 1

Aberdares

Met on arrival at Nairobi Airport and transferred to the Ole Sereni Hotel to freshen up before departing for the Aberdares (180 km). Arrive at the Aberdare Country Club for lunch before moving on to the Ark, where decks overlook a waterhole and salt lick, attracting a wide variety of wildlife.

Day 2

Shaba National Reserve

After Breakfast, you drive north across the equator, en-route to Shaba National Reserve (190km). Lunch will be taken at Shaba Game Lodge. Lunch is followed by an afternoon game drive, before returning to the lodge, where you can enjoy dinner, looking out onto the Ewaso Nyiro river.

Day 3

Shaba National Reserve

You begin with morning and late afternoon game drives, where you can spot an abundance of wildlife including, Grey"s Zebra, Somali giraffes, Oryx Antelopes and Gerenuks. This open savanna, which is traversed by the Ewaso Nyiro River, is also home to the hippos and crocodiles.

Day 4

Aberdares

After Breakfast you travel back to the Aberdares National Park, arriving at the Aberdare County club in time for Lunch (180km). During the afternoon, you will take in the Solio Game Reserve. This wildlife conservancy plays a major role in the protection of black rhinos.

Day 5

Lake Naivasha

After breakfast, you descend into the Great Rift Valley, taking in the views of the mountain en-route to Lake Naivasha Sopa Lodge (200km). Lunch is followed by a boat ride on the lake, spotting a variety of birds. the resort is not only home to our resident giraffe, waterbuck and both Vervet and Colobus monkeys, but it is also a night stop for the hippos.

Day 6

Masai Mara

Drive to the Masai Mara National Reserve (320 km). Arrive in time for lunch followed by an afternoon game drive. The spectacular annual migration attracts millions of animals including over 1 million wildebeest and 300,000 zebras passing through Masai Mara from July to October each year. Sarova Mara Game Camp is ideally located in the heart of the Masai Mara Game Reserve.

Day 7

Masai Mara

Today enjoy an early morning game drive followed by breakfast at the camp.
Then head back out after lunch to exlore more of the majestic Mara's wealth of wildlife.
Alternate option for this day (extra payable in advance):
Take an early morning balloon flight over the Mara followed by a 'bubbly' bush breakfast then enjoy a game drive before heading back to the camp for a delicious hot lunch.

Day 8

Depart

After breakfast, return to Nairobi by road (300 km), or fly from the Masai Mara to Nairobi: morning flight (price on request); lunch in the Masai Mara and afternoon flight (price on request).
